Write for us
Emerald Public Journal welcomes pitches that make a focused, well-explained contribution to understanding public culture. We are interested in shared places, public objects, civic language, ceremonies and public memory, approached with curiosity and attention to context.
What makes a good pitch
Propose one clear question and explain what readers will understand after reading your piece. Strong ideas begin with a particular object, place, custom or phrase, then show why it is worth examining without claiming that one example speaks for everyone. Tell us the likely shape of the article and what reliable material or expertise you would draw on.
A considered approach
We value precise language, careful distinctions between fact and interpretation, and an account of context where it changes the meaning. Avoid pitches that rely on unsupported generalisations, promotional claims or a single anecdote presented as a universal pattern. Please say whether the idea has been published or offered elsewhere.
How to send an idea
Send a short pitch through the Contact page and choose the editorial question option. Include a working title, the central question, a brief outline and any relevant links or source details in the message. A pitch is a proposal, not a promise of publication; please wait for a response before sending a complete draft.
The public realm is made of details
A bench, a notice or a familiar gathering place can tell us how shared life is arranged. Attention to such details makes public culture easier to understand.
